It's been a busy time for the project team since starting the first procurement back in February. With the food waste procurement now well under way the project team are laying the foundations for the second separate procurement process.
In late July a Prior Information Notice (PIN) was submitted to the Official Journal of the European Union, advising the market of the intention to procure residual (mixed) waste treatment facilities. The PIN ensures that interested parties have as much time as possible to prepare for participation in the procurement process.
During the first week in August the four contractors competing to deliver a facility that will recover value from food waste completed their second round of initial dialogue. A third round of initial dialogue is scheduled take place with the project team in September but there are already some interesting proposals on the table. Progress on the project has been stead and the team expect that detailed tenders will be submitted for consideration before the end of 2011.
The application for planning permission in principle for food and residual waste treatment facilities was logged with local planning authority back in March and the project team are working towards a decision on the application in the coming months.
