08 June 2010 has picked up its first award thanks to the work on the site of Graphic Designer David Gilchrist working alongside web developers Gecko New Media. The Creative Exchange Awards which recognise the work of public sector designers and photographers, took place in Glasgow, last Friday June 4. The Best New Media Design Award was won by David for his design work for the website which was selected for having the most innovative use of New Media technology to produce effective graphic design solutions.

David Gilchrist, Graphic Designer for Zero Waste: Edinburgh and Midlothian said, "I'm really pleased to accept this award, it's been great working on Zero Waste and I know this work will continue and expand. Thanks to Creative Exchange who provide us with a forum to exhibit what we're doing and in turn raises the bar in public sector design."

Derek Munn, Secretary of the Creative Exchange said, "It's important that we recognise the great work that's being done out there in public sector design and photography. I would like to congratulate Dave, who's work is a good example of the high quality design that is transforming perceptions of public sector bodies."

David was also the joint winner of an award with Simon Goundry in the Cost Effective Design category, for a garden waste collection calendar which used innovative design to engage householders in Edinburgh. City of Edinburgh Council photographer Alan Laughlin was runner up as Photographer of the Year.
