The issue of residual waste treatment is
not one that is unique to Edinburgh and Midlothian, or Scotland for
that matter.
The UK has been lagging behind much of the rest of Europe in recycling and diversion of waste from landfill Similar projects to what we are proposing have been rolling out across the UK for a number of years, most of them involving large Council areas or groups of Councils. However, there is a significant way to go before we can catch up with the best performing countries.

Whilst the Edinburgh and Midlothian approach is seen to be one of the more proactive projects in Scotland there are a few that already have their facilities up and running, links to each of the relevant authorities or suppliers are listed below.
